About BenefitBump

As benefits experts and working parents, we knew that we could make the employee experience better, so we created BenefitBump.

Why did we create BenefitBump?

The need for maternal mental health resources, family benefit education, and leave advocacy is high, but most vendor solutions leave mental health in the background and treat benefit issues as simply transactional. This means employers are not able to maximize the impact of benefit programs for expanding families and employees are left to navigate an incomplete or confusing patchwork of programs on their own.

Studies since the 1950’s have made the connection between birth complications and high levels of prenatal stress and anxiety. And many studies on post-partum depression find that relationship and financial stressors are the key contributors. These risk factors are addressable, but complicated. Situational stressors, or these root cause issues, require a cross-functional support structure that helps with addressing sources of financial anxiety, relationship strain, logistical challenges, and caring support. The BenefitBump model was built to meet this challenge. At BenefitBump, we put emotional health at the front door and provide the expertise required to help participants know what to do, when to do it, and we help them get things done. This ensures that our participants get the holistic support they need and deserve.

How do we do it? Our trained mental health professionals get to know participants, understand our clients’ benefit plans and time off programs, and conduct educational and emotional well-being check-ins at critical times. We started BenefitBump because growing families deserve a better system than we have today. The competition for talent is intense, expectations are high, and supporting employees during this exciting time makes business sense.

BenefitBump is for all paths to parenthood and all client types. Contact us at 866-286-7440 to learn more.

FAQs

The Case for BenefitBump

Q: Simply put, why should we offer BenefitBump?

A: Benefits and leave program are complex. Many people, and especially recent parents, we surveyed while developing BenefitBump were unaware of most of the programs available to them through their employer’s benefits. This means that you are not getting an optimal ROI on your benefit program. BenefitBump’s care navigation model walks participants through important educational reminders, tips, and transactional support before, during, and after pregnancy and adoption. Our approach will lead to lower stress, time savings for your employees and your benefits and HR staff, and better financial and health outcomes.

Q: We offer a lot of benefit plans and programs, we’re not sure that our benefit ecosystem can handle another program, so why would we implement BenefitBump?

A: BenefitBump can bring order to your benefit ecosystem by serving as a hub for all of your benefits. We educate and connect participants with the valuable programs that employers purchase and implement to improve the health and wellbeing of the workforce.

Q: We are a national employer with a diverse workforce, can BenefitBump help us?

A: Our curriculum is designed to apply to employee populations anywhere in the U.S. and regardless of family structure. Our primary purpose is to connect your workforce to available tools and resources and to help them navigate through the numerous steps on their journey to parenthood, whether it is their first child or not, whether they are giving birth or adopting, and wherever they are in the process.

Registration and engaging with the BenefitBump care team

Q: How do I register for BenefitBump?

A: Registration is easy. Call us at 888-BUMP-314 (888-286-7314) or download the BenefitBump app on the Apple AppStore or Google Play Store. You will simply need to tell us who you work for, or your partner’s employer if they are the company offering BenefitBump. Then, we’ll help you register.

Q: How will employees learn about BenefitBump?

A: BenefitBump will work with you to develop a comprehensive communications plan. Marketing materials include posters, email announcements, content to add to your new hire and annual benefit enrollment information and intranet, and a brief video to share with your field HR staff and line-managers to education them on the program.

Q: Is BenefitBump only for pregnant employees?

A: No, BenefitBump is for the entire family. Plus, our resources are available pre-pregnancy or adoption, during pregnancy or an adoption process, and post-delivery or successful adoption. Just as important, BenefitBump is there for participants when things don’t go as planned such as the loss of a baby or complications during an adoption.

Q: How does the BenefitBump care team help participants understand their benefits?

A: We load your benefits and leave programs into the BenefitBump toolkit, both at our care team’s fingertips and your employee’s. These tools will include details on all of your benefit plans and programs and additional community resources available to participants. But, more importantly, each participant is connected with a navigator who gets to know their needs and concerns, they are part project manager and part coach. And like the participants, the navigator is not alone, they have the help of other team members, including benefits and leave experts.

Benefit navigation & to-do list

Q: What do you mean by benefit navigation?

A: BenefitBump is designed to help employees learn about, and use, all of the benefits and programs the employer offers related to pregnancy, childbirth, and adoption. The Care Navigator will guide participants through all of these programs, helping them get the most out of their benefits.

Q: Do BenefitBump’s services end when participants have their baby or complete their adoption?

A: No, BenefitBump encourages participants to maintain check-in calls for the first year after birth or adoption, perhaps on a less frequent basis. We will also provide content and resources to assist families beyond the first year of life.

Q: How does your program work with our existing benefit plans?

A: BenefitBump is designed to optimize your entire benefit package. We communicate relevant plan and program information, connect participants to available resources offered through your other benefit plan vendors, and help participants navigate the activities they should complete in order to take advantage of the benefits you offer.

Leave planning and advocacy

Q: What is the role of a Leave Advocate?

A: Leave Advocates help participants prepare for their maternity or parental leave and return to work, if that’s the employee’s plan. They will help employees understand the employer’s time off programs, complete forms, and connect particpants to resources that they may need before, during, or after their leave, such as childcare.

Q: What do you mean by the term “leave advocacy”?

A: Leave advocates are in place to work with employees and their supervisors to determine what conditions need to be met to enable a productive return to work. Advocates work with participants to ensure that they have childcare in place, that their work hours fit with their childcare plan and parenting expectations, and/or to help employees evaluate other jobs within their company that might be a better fit for their growing family. For supervisors, the advocate improves the communication between the employee and the supervisor around changing expectations and works to establish a win-win for the employee and the supervisor.

Q: Leave is confusing with FMLA, vacation time, sick leave, short-term disability, paid family leave, parental leave, etc. How will BenefitBump bring order to these programs.

A: Let BenefitBump be your leave “expert”. We will develop a client customized tool that helps participants map out their income sources and job protections while they are on their childbirth or adoption journey. Participant advice will be based on your benefit plans and their state or local entitlements.

Check-in calls

Q: The program encourages participants to schedule regular check-in calls with their care team. What happens on these calls?

A: One of the primary goals of the program is to reduce the stress of our participants. The check-in calls are a great opportunity to visit with participants to better understand their life situation and concerns, plus it’s a great time to get things done. In addition to a general check-in on the participant's well-being, we also help participants work through the to-do’s related to navigating benefits, enrolling in programs, completing forms, and more during the call.

Q: Will participants be able to work with the same navigator throughout their pregnancy?

A: Yes. Since BenefitBump interactions are scheduled, we can work around vacation schedules to ensure that navigators are consistently available to their customers.

Q: What resources will be available to employees/families to help them understand their benefits?

A: Employees and their families will have access to a personalized MyBenefitBump.com website and mobile application. These tools will include details on all resources available to participants. But, more importantly, each participant is connected with a navigator who helps them understand and access their benefits. The navigator is the head of a care team that includes emotional support professionals, benefit experts, and leave advocates.

Q: What do you mean when you say that BenefitBump is an appointment-based model? What happens if participants have a question between calls?

A: Your employees’ time is valuable. BenefitBump believes the best way to ensure that participants get the help they need, when they need it, is to establish regular telephonic discussions with participants. For individuals that would prefer to self-guide, MyBenefitBump.com or the mobile app will provide them with comprehensive benefit plan education and support. If participants have questions between calls or don’t understand information on the site/app, they are welcome to message us through the app/website or to call BenefitBump during normal business hours to talk with an emotional health, benefits, or leave expert.
